Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises play a strategic role in regional economic development, particularly in archipelagic areas such as Tanjungpinang City, where economic activities are highly dependent on natural resource utilization. This dependency highlights the importance of sustainable natural resource management for business continuity and competitiveness. However, many MSMEs still face limitations in implementing sustainable practices, including inefficient use of raw materials and limited adoption of environmentally friendly technologies. This study aims to analyze the effect of sustainable natural resource management as a business strategy on the performance and sustainability of MSMEs in Tanjungpinang City. This research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method targeting natural resource–based MSMEs. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares. The results indicate that sustainable natural resource management has a positive and significant effect on MSME performance and business sustainability. Efficient use of raw materials, waste reduction practices, adoption of environmentally friendly technologies, and attention to resource conservation contribute to improved business stability and product competitiveness. The findings confirm that sustainable natural resource management serves not only as an environmental preservation effort but also as an effective business strategy for MSMEs, particularly in archipelagic regions that rely heavily on local natural resources
