Persepsi Mahasiswa terhadap Penggunaan Artificial Intelligence (AI) dalam English Academic Writing

This study aims to describe students' perceptions of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), ChatGPT as a reference for information in English Academic Writing, to what extent AI plays a role in helping students improve the quality of academic writing. This research method uses qualitative descriptively with a case study approach. The subjects of the study were 17 students of the English Language Education Study Program in semesters VI and VIII at the IAI Miftahul Ulum Tanjungpinang. The research data were obtained by distributing questionnaires and conducting interviews. The results of this study indicate that students' perceptions of the use of ChatGPT in English Academic Writing are in the positive category. This can be seen from the distribution of student responses, namely Strongly Disagree (4%), Disagree (8.20%), Neutral (20%), Agree (38%), and Strongly Agree (29.80%). Furthermore, ChatGPT is considered very easy to use because it has a simple appearance and easy-to-understand features. This platform is able to present information in a structured manner, facilitate the search for new ideas, and encourage students to explore information. The use of ChatGPT is very beneficial for students because it speeds up information searches, facilitates paraphrasing, and supports efficient idea development. The use of ChatGPT also contributes positively to increasing students' writing motivation, especially through the ease of finding inspiration and compiling academic writing frameworks. ChatGPT has great potential to be used as a tool in developing academic literacy, as long as it is used critically and creatively
