Abstract

This English for Hotel training, based on the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach, aims to enhance the English communication skills of vocational hotel management students at SMKN 2 Tanjungpinang. The method used in this study is Participatory Action Research. The pre-test results indicated that students' initial proficiency was relatively low, with an average score of 58.7. Following a three-week training program, there was a significant improvement, with the post-test average score rising to 78.4. Improvements were evident across all assessed aspects, particularly in speaking fluency and mastery of hospitality expressions. Furthermore, classroom observations during the training showed that students became increasingly active participants, especially in role-play activities and hotel service simulations. Questionnaire responses revealed that 90% of the students found the training highly beneficial and relevant to workplace demands, while 87% reported that the methods used were engaging and facilitated easier comprehension. Additionally, 85% of students expressed greater confidence in speaking English after completing the training. These findings emphasize that CLT and context-based learning are effective in developing students' communication competencies. This training program provides a meaningful contribution to preparing students for real-world workplace situations in the hospitality industry and may serve as a sustainable training model for vocational schools.
